The greengrocer in Beirut is the sweetest man; in his mid to late eighties and quite a flirt.
If I say, “these cherries look so pretty!”, he answers “not as pretty as you!”, etc. In any case, he had these fresh hazelnuts on display and told me to just eat them like fresh almonds.
Their shell can be cracked in your mouth (or with a nutcracker-safer!) and the fresh hazelnut inside is nutty and delicate-tasting without any bitterness.
A great way to pass the time when the heat makes you feel lazy and sluggish, and hot food is the last thing you wish for.
This was at Sidon’s crusader’s castle, yet no one seemed interested to pose in front of the castle!

I hope I’m a big flirt in my 80s…fresh hazelnuts sound wonderful!
I had them once as a little girl, I remember the peel left a sour taste on my lips while cracking the shell. I should look into getting a tree to plant in my backyard.
The water is so beautiful.
Lovely clicks, feel like munching those fresh nuts.
The man is right! You’re very pretty, always thought this of your blog photo

I’d love to taste a fresh hazelnut! I’ve never had fresh almonds either. The water is beautiful. I can see why everyone wanted to pose in front of it!
I’ve never even seen a fresh hazelnut, I’d love to try one some day.
