A day at the beach

June 18, 2010  •  Category:

In Lebanon these days one has a choice of beaches: you can go to a ritzy beach (if you want to parade in your latest outfit) , a free beach, a moderate beach; it all depends on what you are in the mood for. This one is  located North of Byblosand it has a nice family atmosphere and great food that you can eat right at the beach. Tabbouleh, fries, fresh fried fish, fattoush and  fresh fruits.

Here my cousin Isabelle is having a traditional Lebanese sweet (and healthy) snack of tahini mixed with carob molasses or debess.

Wow – what a beach! Quite different from the ones we’ll be visiting in Oregon soon in that you can walk for miles and not see another soul, and need fleece jackets rather than swim suits. As for food – scarce to say the least unless you bring your own. I think I’m a little jealous of your beach! Ha.

This is a breath taking view of the Mediterranean sea, the waves that toss are so, calm, friendly, and inviting, I am sure the water is warm too, lucky you Joumana you get to sun bathe, and swim in it, I remeber how we looked forward for summer, and swimming. Thank you for this post card, it is very calming.

Ahhh, that’s the life: beach, tan, get got, swim, dry off, tan, swim, get hungry, sleep it off, digest and swim all over again. (sigh)

That’s the only thing I miss about Westhampton, there are no “real” beaches in PA. A day at the beach with a spread like that, oh my goodness. Perfecto!

It just so happens that we’re playing the Picnic Game over at my blog Joumana. Won’t you join us? No it won’t look as pretty and serene but I know for sure we’ll have good eats!!!

  21. Jean says:

  34. Doc says:

Looks divine. What is the green item in the bowl?

    • Joumana says:

@Doc: are you referring to the bowl with the baba ghannouj? there is a puddle of olive oil in the middle of it. The main bowl has tabbouleh salad in it which is almost all green because it is supposed to be made up of parsley and tomatoes and onions with barely any bulgur, not the opposite which is what is done in the west; of course parsley in Lebanon is very thin and so the tabbouleh taste much better. (even the Italian parsley in the US is tough)

  35. dana says:

Ahh, Joumana! I am loving your posts. We had to cancel our trip because Jad fill sick, so I am living Lebanon through your posts. Looking forward to them every night. Enjoy!!
