At midnight in Beirut on December 31st, 2009 fireworks exploded in the starry skies.

Our cake for New Year’s Eve was a creation of Anne-Marie’s. Anne-Marie is a childhood friend who decided after a career in pharmaceutical sales in Paris to chuck it all and pursue her true passion, pastry; she trained in some prestigious pastry shops in Paris such as Gerard Mulot and others and returned to Beirut; she works out of her home and her cakes and tarts have been popular with Beirutis, who have a discerning palate; her creations are exquisite and taste homemade.
The cake below is a vacherin aux marrons, a meringue and chestnut cream cake. Anne-Marie can be found most Saturdays at Souk el Tayyeb, the organic farmers market in Beirut, or can be reached at (03) 382-436.
