Valentine cookies

February 14, 2015  •  Category: ,

I had decided to have my niece (8) and nephew (6) over for a Valentine cookie party. I just had no time available so I made the dough in about ten minutes, kept it in the fridge and we rolled it out when they showed-up. Fun time!

INGREDIENTS: 60 small heart cookies

1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

1 cup powdered sugar

3 egg yolks

1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (add more to get a firm but moist dough if needed, up to 2 1/2 cups)

dash salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon orange blossom water

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 drops of red food color

1. In a mixer bowl, place the butter and sugar; start mixing, add the yolks, flavoring and dry ingredients. When a dough forms, stop, pat into a firm mass and wrap in foil or wax paper and keep in the fridge till needed.

2. Roll out between two sheets of wax or baking paper and cut into heart shapes. Bake at 350F for about 7 to 12 minutes till set and slightly golden. Cool and serve.
