I had a newfound appreciation for my Teta’s hard labor when I started wanting to make homemade lemonade. She would spend at least 45 minutes squeezing the lemon halves with her knuckles, which was the technique used then to extract the oil from the lemon rind. To make it taste very lemony and to get the health benefits of the oil. Amazing. Then my mother started using the Kenwood Chef, a wonder machine made in England, that had a dozen attachments, like a blender, a potato peeler, a meat grinder and so on. I decided to make a lemonade my mother’s way. She would place the cut up lemons in the blender, a few tablespoons of sugar, some water, get the machine going, count to 15 and presto! It was done.

I love this method. It takes me all of one minute to assemble and I have a fresh and homemade lemonade every day. I love it! Lemons are a miracle fruit. Not only do they protect you from viruses and germs but they also keep you, well, regular. They are the natural cleansing fruit. It is important  to make a fresh lemonade, every day.



2 small lemons, preferably organic, washed and cut in quarters

3 cups of spring water, preferably

1 cup of ice cubes

sugar to taste or sugar substitute or honey

1 Tablespoon of orange blossom water and rose water (optional)


Drop the lemons, cut in half or quarters in the blender. Add the sugar, water, ice cubes, flavored waters if using.

Whirl on high speed for about 15 seconds. Pour the lemonade through a sieve into a jug. Will make enough for 1 quart or 2 tall glasses.

      Thanks! What I like about it is that it is speedy and does not waste the related benefits from rind and pulp. I make it daily.

      It is! You can double up on the ice cubes! After reading Arlette’s blog post on the benefits of honey, I think I’ll use it instead of sweetener!

    i forgot to mention the skiinning if chickpeas for hummos bi tahineh and falafel is practiced throughout the levant by older generations..it needs to be revitalized
