This is the traditional spiced rice that would be a perfect match for a Thanksgiving turkey.
Thanksgiving was always a holiday that would make me feel inadequately prepared in the kitchen. That turkey's size was intimidating and I would always prefer to celebrate at somebody else's house; let them handle that bird, not me!
Anyway, eventually I solved my problem by making it a Lebanese-style Thanksgiving, and delegating the turkey to somebody else.
The most traditional way to serve a bird (chicken, hen) in Lebanon is with a spiced rice garnished with lots of fried almonds, pine nuts, or pistachios and perhaps some fancy chestnuts (if desired).
The advantage here is the rice can be prepared a day before, making the event much more relaxed for the hostess.
